A Blessed Birthday

As I walked out the door to leave for work last Friday, my phone rang and I was serenaded with a (quite rousing for that time of the morning) round of “Happy Birthday”, sung by my mother and oldest sister.  I love them.  Every birthday, my mom makes sure to call me before I leave for work, no matter what time it may be.  I still miss her birthday breakfasts in bed, but this is the next best thing, considering she’s about 1,000 miles away.

When I got to work, I opened the door to our office, which had been transformed into a birthday wonderland!  I have the best friends/coworkers ever.  I walked through the wall of streamers, blowing in the chilly, stormy wind…

and found a note on our white board -

There were streamers and balloons and decals…

and the cutest little confetti!

They even decorated the mini fridge!

Bethany left me the sweetest (sweet…cake…get it?!) card on my desk.

The student I interpret for even brought me cookie bars on a moose plate!  How cool is that?

And, just as her note promised, Bethany me a cake!  And I ate the middle piece.  Because I’m allowed to do that on my birthday.

When I got home from work, I looked up and saw the most beautiful rainbow, streaking across the gray sky.  I’m pretty sure it was God’s present to me.

But, the celebration didn’t stop there!  Daniel had told me we were going over to his brother’s apartment to help him put together a piece of furniture, but really, Richard had thrown me a surprise party!  I walked into his decorated apartment to find Daniel’s mom and sister were there waiting for us, too.

There were balloons and streamers and he found the cutest cupcake birthday banner!  He knows me well!

Daniel’s mom had searched everywhere to find someone who would make a moose cake for me, and she ended up with the most adorable moose!

In an effort to get me the fanciest of their gourmet flavors, she bought a chocolate cake with banana filling.  It was so sweet of her, but…I still ate around the banana parts.

When we pulled into the house around 11pm that night, we found flowers waiting for me from two of our friends.

My Facebook wall was flooded with sweet comments and well wishes and I am just overwhelmed with gratitude for all of the wonderful friends and family in my life who went out of their way to make my birthday extra special.

I am, as always, so very blessed.
